Dr. Grace Lalana Christopher, President & Founder CEO,‘New Gen Parenting’ is a qualified Pediatrician having graduated for both under and post-graduation from the esteemed institute of Christian Medical College & Hospital Vellore, India.
She is also a mother of two, with ‘hands on’ experience in parenting, with a wealth of specialized knowledge concerning the healthy growth and development of children of all ages and authored several books covering all aspects of ‘New Gen Parenting’ to meet the requirements of the modern children aimed at specific developmental age groups right from the time of birth up to adolescence to young adulthood.
The present scenario and fast moving pace of life gives parents the advantage of knowing the scientific basis and right approach in parenting techniques and child rearing methods thus doing the right thing the first time around, making the task of parenting pleasure. These ‘Happy, Healthy Child’ books covers all aspects of child rearing and should be read by all parents, teachers and those involved in the care of children of all ages.
Her latest publication includes a book of over 80 poems and quotes on lifestyle goals titled “Life Style Goals Book of Poetry and Paintings” with nuggets of information for all ages to lead healthier, happy lives lifting one to higher grounds to
being better humans. After publishing several original, cutting edge research papers that will change the approach to newborn care.
Other medical books authored include ‘Recent Advances in Perinatology with Special Reference for Ethnicity’ published for the first time in the world perinatal definitions for ethnic Asian population comprising over 7 billion of the world’s population of 8 billion, India being the most populous country in the world can set guidelines for the wellbeing of the small vulnerable Asian newborns. She invented a new way to resuscitate newborns during her clinical practice in 2016 by Sustained Nasal Oxygen Inflation (SNOI) to physiologically facilitate first breath through a wide bore oxygen tube directed
towards the baby’s nose scientifically proven to exert Peak End Expiratory Pressure
(PEEP) backed by several evidence based revised Cochrane risk-of bias tool.
Oxygen is the only therapy for hypoxia attained by high-flow nasal oxygen and in
2019 published”Lalana Newborn Resuscitation (LNR) the safest, simple, non-invasive delivery system.

Title “ Lalana Newborn Resuscitation and New Ethnic Based Perinatal
Strategy” June 16-17, 2022, Amsterdam, Netherlands (Virtual)
Abstract:
Background:
Birth asphyxia is a leading cause of perinatal and neonatal morbidity and mortality
with intrapartum factors rather than antepartum or post-partum having a major
impact, hence effective resuscitation of newborns takes on priority in saving lives.
Genetic differences in Asian and Caucasian population necessitates new ethnic
specific perinatal definitions
Aim:
Quick and safe resuscitation of hypoxic/asphyxiated newborns transiting from fetal
fluid filled lungs to well aerated neonatal lungs by sustained nasal oxygen inflation
with onset of rhythmic respiration, increase heart rate, as a low heart rate indicates
vagal induced bradycardia in response to perinatal asphyxia, triggering large
reduction in Pulmonary Vascular Resistance (PVR), facilitates a series of
cardiovascular changes essential for survival after birth. New perinatal strategy
for ethnic Asians with peak delivery at 38 weeks gestation requires implementation
of ethnic Asian Due Date for wellbeing of Asian fetuses and newborns.
Method:
The study comprised of 1,383 consecutive singleton live births during 14 month
period from 1 st April 2016 to 31 st May 2017, wherein 60% (n=830/1383) deliveries
were attended, exclusion criteria 12 twin pregnancies and 10 stillbirths. Resuscitation
of hypoxic/asphyxiated newborns involves one to three steps. STEP 1: Assessment
of score zero to +5 by pulse oximetry based on peripheral oxygen saturation. STEP
2: Classification as “Normal” and hypoxic/asphyxiated newborns Graded I-V
based on SpO2 pattern of respiration, rate/min and heart rate (bpm). STEP 3:
Lalana Newborn Resuscitation (LNR) Protocol I and II by sustained nasal oxygen
inflation, proven both scientifically and physiologically to initiate rhythmic respiration.
The mean gestation at birth among 2705 live births was analyzed using SPSS
version 21.
Results:
Incidence of birth asphyxia was 21.4%, all 178 hypoxic/asphyxiated newly born
Graded I - V within 20 – 60 seconds of birth, were successfully resuscitated by
sustained nasal inflatory, oxygen flow at rate of 4 -15 Litres/minute directed to
baby’s nostrils through a wide bore tube for up to 1 to 3 minutes, initiating rhythmic
breathing, and respiratory rate 30 - 60/min, heart rate 120 - 160 beats per minute
(bpm) and, SpO2 >96% monitored continuously by Pulse Oximeter. The peak
gestation Asian South Indian newborn is 38.2 weeks gestation.
Conclusion:
‘Lalana Newborn Resuscitation’ (LNR) proved effective in all 178 asphyxiated
newborns, Grade I - V by continuous positive pressure ventilation with sustained
nasal oxygen inflation at flow rates of 4 - 15 L/min commenced rhythmic
breathing within 1-3 minutes of birth,, respiratory rate 30 - 60/min, heart rate 120 -
160 bpm and Zero pulse oximetry score, SpO 2 >96%. The mean gestation at
birth in Asian South Indian newborns is 38.2 weeks gestation and Asian Due Date
(ADD) for delivery being 36 +6 weeks gestation

Recommendations from Prof. Emeritus Dr. David Hutchon, FRCOG, from UK,
emailed: “I am impressed by your article and work. I also agree that the NRP
recommendations are not correct. I have read your paper in "Journal of Clinical
Medical Research". Dr. Hutchon has also stated the NRP is flawed with regard to
resuscitation of the newly born. Has recommended LNR technique for resuscitation
of newborns for the Concord 2 nd Generation Life Support Trolley, Leiden University,
Amsterdam, Netherlands, allowing newborns to be resuscitated at mother’s bedside
at delivery implementing delayed cord clamping upto 3 minutes recommended by
WHO for wellbeing of both mother and baby. Accurate assessment of newborn
status by Pulse Oximetry obviates Apgar Scoring which is outdated and inaccurate
thus bringing holistic newborn resuscitation into the 24 th century.
